Residents of Cainta, Rizal, continue to uphold their Lenten tradition through stage plays that re-enact major events in the Bible, including the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Around 20 groups of local artists from various villages in Cainta bring to life Biblical stories and characters through theatrical performances held in their respective communities every Lenten season.
Each group has its own performance schedule, with some beginning as early as March and others starting on Palm Sunday.
Two of these groups—the Samahang Krus Sa Nayon, performing at the Tanghalang Cainta located at the Cainta municipal grounds, and the Krus Sa Nayon Incorporated, staging their play at the One Cainta Arena—will continue their presentations until Easter Sunday.
Last Good Friday, all participating groups came together for the “Parada ng Panata 2025,” a street procession in Cainta that gave the public a glimpse of their performances, complete with elaborate costumes and props, including horses and chariots.
These Holy Week stage plays have become an annual must-see event in the municipality, attracting both local and international tourists for several years now.
