1,680 cops deployed to secure Holy Week in Western Visayas


ILOILO CITY—The Philippine National Police (PNP) is deploying 1,680 police officers to secure the Holy Week in Western Visayas.

The Police Regional Office-6 under Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky has ordered all police units in Western Visayas to fully implement security and public safety plans.

Police presence has been strengthened in key locations in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as the regional capital of Iloilo City.

“Our deployment is in coordination and collaboration with the local government units (LGUs) and other concerned government agencies,” Wanky said.

Police assistance desks were deployed in bus terminals, seaports, airports, and key tourist destinations such as world-famous Boracay Island in Aklan.

The PRO-6 tapped existing checkpoints for the election season and conducting intensified mobile patrols for crime prevention.

Police Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, chief of the PRO-6 Public Information Office (PIO), said police are augmented by eight force multipliers from the barangays  as well as advocacy groups.
