P6.8-M smuggled cigarettes recovered in Lanao del Norte


BUTUAN CITY – Police recovered smuggled cigarettes valued at more than P6.8 million in Barangay Piraka, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte province on Sunday night, March 16.

Lawmen were patrolling the area when they discovered 170 boxes of assorted brand cigarettes between the shoreline and the national highway.

Police Regional Office-10 Regional Public Information Office (RPIO) chief Police Major Joanne G. Navarro said these were taken to the Sultan Naga Dimaporo police station for documentation and will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.

PRO-10 Director Police Brig Gen. Jaysen C. de Guzman commended operating units for their accomplishment.

“This operation demonstrates our unwavering stance against illegal activities especially on smuggled cigarettes across the region,” he said.

“We will continue to intensify our enforcement efforts to curb smuggling, and we urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.” 

Police are identifying and pursuing the owner and determining the origin of the contraband.
