The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is now crafting measures to increase the benefits of motorists from motor vehicle insurance following consultations with transport groups and even insurance providers.
LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II also vowed to run after unauthorized sellers of Compulsory Third Party Liability (CTPL) which was raised by motor vehicle insurance providers during the dialogue.
“The consultation meeting was aimed at getting the points of view and recommendations of as many stakeholders to further improve the government’s land transportation services,” said Mendoza.
“During the discussion, all the attendees pointed out the necessity of increasing the benefits under the insurance and also the need to ensure that the payment of claims is faster and comfortable compared to the current system,” he added.
Mendoza said the two other changes that are now being ironed out are the immediate correction on encoding errors on insurance, and removing the participation fee in the entire process of claiming the payment.
“We would conduct finishing touches on this matter, particularly on the legality issues in coordination with the Insurance Commission before we will present this to our DOTr Secretary (Vince Dizon) and implement all these changes,” he added.
Mendoza also promised to the insurance companies that he will personally oversee the conduct of operations against those selling CTPL without the authorization of the Insurance Commission.
He said they will be deploying mystery customers to identify and subject those illegally selling CTPL to LTO and police operations
