Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidate Panfilo "Ping" Lacson is doubling down on his suggestion to reverse the direction of buses along the busway at Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).
Apparently there's an incidental "safety feature" to the former senator's EDSA busway counterflow proposal.
Lacson that with the proper infrastructure in place, commuters can get off at the center island instead of along the highway and avoid getting hit by cars, since the buses' doors are on the right side.
"The buses' doors are on the right side. So if you reverse the traffic flow at the busway, passengers getting off the right side would end up at the center island, so they will be safer," he said in a radio interview Wednesday, March 5
"Commuters will not be in danger of being hit by oncoming vehicles when they get off," he added.
Lacson initially proposed the counterflow on the restricted busway as a way to discourage its abuse by unauthorized vehicles, as he noted that no one wants a head-on collision.

The administration bet has pointed out that such a system is in use in other cities like Taipei, and it would be worth studying if it can be adopted here.
"The system is in use in Taiwan and it's working well. I think it's worth studying if it can be adopted here. If it is adopted here, who would want to be 'exempted' at the risk of a head-on collision?" he said.
