
A total of P2,300,000 worth of marijuana plants were destroyed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at the boundary of Ilocos Sur and Benguet provinces as part of the government's eradication operation, it was reported Friday, Feb. 21.
PDEA Regional Office 1 Director Joel B. Plaza said the team uprooted and destroyed 10,800 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants and 3,500 pieces of marijuana seedlings from three plantation sites with a total land area of 1,550 square meters last Wednesday.
“The marijuana plants were destroyed and burned on-site right after the operation," Plaza said.
However, there was no mention if any cultivators or maintainers were arrested during the operation.
The eradication operation was carried out by the PDEA Regional Office I-Ilocos Sur Provincial Office (PDEA RO I-ISPO), PDEA La Union Provincial Office (PDEA LUPO), PDEA National Special Enforcement Team- Luzon 1 (PDEA NSET), Sugpon Police Station in the disputed boundary of Barangay Licungan, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur and Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan, Benguet.
