University of the East signed Chris Gavina as its new head coach for the next UAAP basketball season, the school announced Thursday, Feb. 13

Gavina, who once handled Rain or Shine in the PBA, takes the helm following the resignation of Jack Santiago last month.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Chris Gavina to the Red Warriors family,” said UE President Zosimo Battad in the contract signing which was also witnessed by UE’s vice chairman David Chua and senior vice president Florence Siy.
“His leadership, passion and experience in both local and international basketball will be instrumental in molding our new breed of champions,” he added.
Gavina expressed his excitement to coach the Red Warriors who have Precious Momowei, John Abate, Rey Maga and Wello Lingolingo leading the way.
“I am honored to coach the UE Red Warriors, a program that has produced legends of Philippine basketball,” Gavina said.
“For those who cherish basketball history, I am humbled to step into the role once held by the phenomenal Coach Baby Dalupan, who led this institution to its golden era,” he added.
UE finished in fifth place with a 6-8 win-loss record in the standings. The Red Warriors had a promising start and almost broke UE's Final Four drought of 15 years.
