Man drowns trying to save son in Ilocos Sur


SANTO DOMINGO, Ilocos Sur -- A bus conductor drowned while trying to rescue his son in the sea of Barangay Sived here on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8.

Police Lt. William Costales Jr., town deputy chief of police, identified the victim as Jayson Pabo, 46, of Barangay An-annam, Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

The victim and his family were having a picnic when his son drowned while swimming.

Pabo dived to rescue his son but was taken by the strong waves.

The victim’s nephew also dived to rescue them but only managed to rescue the boy due to strong waves.

Barangay tanods recovered the victim and was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Costales reminded people not to swim in rough seas to avoid untoward incidents.
