Two members of the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) were injured after they were attacked by several men while conducting a police operation at a mall in San Juan City on Jan. 26, San Juan City Police Chief Col. Deodennis Marmol said.
In a now viral video on social media, a group of men were seen surrounding a white van while at the Greenhills Shopping Center. The men were heard halting the vehicle and ordering its occupants to get out of the van.
Marmol explained the occupants of the van were police officers who have just arrested a suspect wanted for sextotion.
As the officers handcuffed the suspect, the men suddenly surrounded the van and assaulted the policemen. One of the injured policemen suffered facial injuries while the other was struck on his side.
The suspect managed to escape from the authorities during the scuffle and entered the mall again where he managed to elude them.
"Sa ngayon po, meron po tayong positively identified, pero napaka-limited po kasi ng mga video na nakukuha namin kaya medyo nahihirapan po kami mag-identify pa ng ibang involved (We have positively identified some of the men who attacked our officers, but since the videos are very limited, we are having difficulties in identifying the other involved individuals)," Marmol said.
The police are set to meet with the personnel of Ortigas Security and members of the Muslim community to identify the other attackers and locate the sextortion suspect.
