A cyclist was shot to death during a heated street argument with an e-trike driver in Rodriguez, Rizal on Monday, Jan. 27.
In a dash cam footage, the suspect was seen holding a gun and pointing it at the victim, Toto Garcia, as he pursued the suspect with a pipe.
The footage showed the suspect shooting the victim, but Garcia was still able to strike the suspect with the pipe.
A few minutes later, the suspect was able to stand and immediately fled the scene leaving Garcia lying on the side of the road.
Prior to the incident, a CCTV footage showed that Garcia got mad when an e-trike driver cut him off while he was riding his bicycle, causing him to confront the e-trike driver who was the suspect's sibling.
The confrontation escalated into a fight between the two. With the use of a wooden bat (dos por dos), the victim reportedly hit the E-trike driver who was armed with a pipe and caused him injuries. This prompted the suspect's family to take revenge and gang up on the victim.
The victim was reportedly able to file a report with the barangay, but upon returning home, the family of the E-trike driver was waiting for him and began using a slingshot, which also hit the victim’s family.
Due to the slingshot attack, the victim chased the suspect, which led to him being shot by the suspect.
The victim was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the suspect's father claimed that they used the slingshot because his son, the E-trike driver, was hurt by the wooden beam. However, he said he had no idea why his other son had a gun.
They said they are cooperating with authorities to surrender the suspect, while the authorities have yet to release a statement as the investigation is ongoing.
