TACLOBAN CITY – The Armed Forces Visayas Command has awarded the AFP Campaign Streamer to two infantry brigades, three battalions, and former operational control units of the 8th Infantry “Stormtroopers” Division for successfully dismantling New People's Army units in Eastern Visayas.
The award was given during the command conference at the VisCom headquarters in Camp Lapu-Lapu, Cebu City this week.
The awardees were the 801st Infantry Brigade and 42nd Infantry Battalion, a former operational control unit of the 8th ID, for dismantling the Elcon Platoon, Sub-Regional Committee, Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee.
The 802nd Infantry Brigade was feted for dismantling the Sub-Regional Guerilla Unit Bugsok, SRC Sesame of the EVRPC, the Apoy Platoon, and Platoon 2, Island Committee 47, Levox, EVRPC.
The 63rd Infantry Battalion was recognized for dismantling the SRGU Bugsok, SRC Sesame, EVRPC.
The 78th Infantry Battalion was awarded for dismantling the Apoy Platoon, SRC Sesame, EVRPC, and the 93rd Infantry Battalion for dismantling the Platoon 2, IC 47 Levox.
Major Gen. Adonis Aruel Orio, 8th ID commander, lauded the awardees for their accomplishments that contributed to the campaign of ending local communist armed conflict in Eastern Visayas.
He urged troops to continue their efforts and sustain the gains against the remaining insurgents. “We are almost there, so, let us continue our efforts and sustain our gains against these communist terrorist groups, the people rely on us,” Orio added.
