1 dead as speeding motorcycle hits 2 women in Malate

A woman died while another was injured after being hit by a speeding motorcycle while they were crossing a street  in Malate, Manila, on Thursday, Jan. 23.

The identities of the motorcyclist and the victims have not yet been disclosed by the Manila Police District (MPD).

According to witnesses, the motorcycle was seen speeding along Taft Avenue when it collided with the two women who were crossing the pedestrian lane while the traffic light was green. 

Police said the motorcycle rider was unable to avoid the women and hit them.

The impact of the collision threw the motorcycle rider from his vehicle. The two women were also seen tumbling. 

The motorcycle slid several feet from the scene before catching fire.

They were rushed to the UP General Hospital. 

Police confirmed that one of the victims was pronounced dead on arrival, while the other sustained severe injuries but was later allowed to be discharged from the hospital.

The MPD stated that the suspect may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries.
