More people, supporters of the Duterte family in particular, backed the decision of the House of Representatives to remove a Bicolano solon as chairman of the powerful Committee on Appropriations.

Some of them said the ouster of Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co from the plum position is “karma” for his criticisms against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Co’s decision to step down reportedly appeased some netizens who called it a face-saving decision and done to avoid criticisms.

On Jan. 13, presidential son House Senior Deputy Majority Leader Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos made a motion to declare the position vacant.

"I move to declare vacant the position of chairman of the Committee on Appropriations," Marcos said.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez affirmed the motion after no member of the chamber objected.

Co was succeeded by Marikina City Rep. Stella Quimbo as officer-in-charge. However, former presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo rejected Quimbo as Co’s replacement.

Co cited health concerns as reason in his decision to step down. Malacañang said they have nothing to do with the removal of Co.
