2 Boracay institutions win ASEAN tourism awards


ILOILO CITY – Two institutions at world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province bagged tourism awards handed out by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

 The Malay Sailing Boat Owners Association and the Mandala Spa and Resort Villas Boracay were two of the three winners from Western Visayas region.

 The Malay Association of Sailing Boat Owners was awarded the ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Award for its commitment to sustainable tourism.

Mandala Spa and Resort Villas Boracay won the ASEAN Spa Services Award for its spa services.

The two institutions were awarded in Malaysia in a ceremony on Monday, Jan. 20.

The Suyac Island Mangrove Eco-Park in Sagay City, Negros Occidental was the third awardee from Western Visayas.

“These achievements highlight the dedication of Western Visayas’ tourism stakeholders to sustainability and excellence, giving more reasons to Love the Philippines,” the Department of Tourism-Western Visayas said.
