3 killed in Lapu-Lapu City shooting spree


CEBU CITY – Three people were killed and another was wounded when a 40-year-old man allegedly under the influence of drugs went on a shooting spree in Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City on Friday night, Jan. 17.

Police identified the suspect as Eduardo Taghoy Jr.

Lawmen believe Taghoy was high on illegal drugs when he shot the victims who he only chanced on a road. 

The suspect was incoherent when interviewed by the media at the police station. In some instance during the interview, the suspect said that the devil whispered to him to open fire.

Polic Lt. Col. Christian Torres, spokesperson for the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said a 26-year-old photographer, a female lending collector, and Ngangang Aying died on the spot. A 30-year-old construction worker was taken to a hospital with a bullet wound. 

Police said Aying was the first to get shot. 

The suspect went home after the shooting rampage. Police followed the suspect in his home where he was arrested.

Packs of suspected shabu and a .45 caliber pistol were recovered from the suspect.

The suspect was previously arrested for illegal drug charges and released from jail four months ago.
