An 11-year-old boy was rescued by the Parañaque City Police from his estranged father who kidnapped him in Laguna on Thursday, Jan. 9.

The police said the suspect was identified as “Joseph,” unemployed, and a resident of General Trias, Cavite. He was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. in Sta. Rosa.

Based on the police report, the victim's mother said Joseph convinced her to borrow their child on a promise that the boy will be returned before school classes resume. However, the suspect cut off all communications between his son and his wife and refused to return the child to his mom.

He then urged his wife to reunite with him in exchange for their son, prompting the her to seek help from the police which led in his arrest.

Charges for violating the Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (Republic Act 9262) and the Revised Penal Code Article 270 – Kidnapping and Failure to Return a Minor, were filed against Joseph.
