CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – A 22-year-old criminology student facing a rape case was shot dead on Thursday night, Jan. 9, in Pinamalayan town, Oriental Mindoro province.

Police Lt. Col. Joel G. Paningbatan, Pinamalayan Municipal Police Station chief, identified the victim as Jayvieboy N. Bullos, single.
Investigation said Bullos was on his way to a store when the suspect, Gregorio L. Mejico, single, 50, approached confronted him over the case.
A heated argument erupted and the suspect drew a handgun and shot the victim in the body.
The suspect fled and the victim was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead from bullet wounds.
The victim allegedly raped the suspect’s 21-year-old niece in October 2023. A case was filed against the suspect who was able to post a P60,000 bail a month later.
Police eye vengeance as a motive in the killing.
