A Troy Rosario explosion opened the floodgates and the rest of Barangay Ginebra followed through as the Kings take down the San Miguel Beermen, 93-81, in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, Jan. 5.
There was no holiday hangover whatsoever for the Kings as they built a sizable margin behind Rosario’s best showing in Ginebra uniform before Justin Brownlee, RJ Abarrientos and Stephen Holt all delivered the big hits to douse repeated rallies from the Beermen.
Rosario, an offseason signing for the Kings, poured 16 of his 22 points in the second half to go with his 10 rebounds and a block.
Brownlee provided support with 19 points and Holt with 15 as their huge triples down the stretch also helped Ginebra keep a double-digit barrier against SMB which tried to ride the shoulders of June Mar Fajardo to come back from a huge 20-point deficit.
Scottie Thompson also orchestrated the balanced attack as he came two-point shy of a triple-double after registering eight points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists.
Ginebra recorded its second straight victory to hike its standing to 5-2 while sending SMB to its second straight defeat for a 3-4 slate.
