Cordillera cops net P1.8-B illegal drugs in 2024


CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – Shabu and marijuana valued at more than P1 billion were confiscated and 335 suspected drug pushers were apprehended by the police in the Cordillera region from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024.

The Police Regional Office Cordillera-Regional Operations Division said 974 buy-bust operations, marijuana eradications, police response, implementation of search warrants, service of warrants of arrest, checkpoints, and interdiction operations were conducted.

PRO-Cordillera chief Police Brig. Gen. David Peredo Jr. said 6,292,634 fully grown marijuana plants, 4,824,319.86 grams of dried marijuana, 145,558 marijuana seedlings, 647.78 milliliters of marijuana oil, seven grams of marijuana seeds, and 1,049.73 grams of shabu with an overall value of P1,850,799,191.55 were seized.

Three-hundred thirty-five drug pushers – 168 high-value and 167 street-level individuals – were arrested with the Baguio City Police Office apprehending 114 individuals, followed by the Kalinga Police Provincial Office with 84, Benguet PPO with 76, Abra PPO with 29, Apayao PPO with 14, Mountain Province PPO with 10, and Ifugao PPO with eight.

The PRO-Cordillera encouraged three Persons Who Used Drugs to voluntarily surrender and undergo the Community-Based Recovery and Wellness Program (RWP) and 112 PWUDs successfully completed their community-based RWP.
