2 cops in Capiz mauled on New Year’s Day


ILOILO CITY – Two policemen were allegedly mauled by two men in Jamindan town, Capiz province on New Year’s Day.

The victims were identified as Police Staff Sgt. Ezequiuas R. Villeza and Police Corporal Apolonio L. Llait Jr. of the Jamindan Municipal Police Station (MPS).

Investigation said they were returning to the Jamindan MPS after completing their duty at 12:40 a.m. when a motorcycle driven by Joah Oceta Villasis allegedly bumped Llait’s leg. 

Llait and Villeza arrested Villasis but he resisted. Villasis’ companion, Mark Jason Javier Cano, kicked and punched Villeza.

Colleagues of the two lawmen rushed to their aid as the police station was nearby and subdued the suspects.

The Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) is investigating the incident.

“A thorough investigation is underway, with a commitment to justice and transparency for all involved. The public's cooperation in providing information is requested,” said Police Col. Albert Tapulao, CPPO director.

The suspects are facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury, direct assault, and resisting arrest.
