House leaders want former president Rodrigo Duterte investigated for his alleged role in "harboring" fugitive Pastor Apollo Quiboloy at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Davao City.

Manila 3rd district Rep. Joel Chua and Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Jil Bongalon have both pointed to the fact that Duterte is the administrator of Quiboloy’s estate, including the KOJC compound where the controversial pastor hid from police operatives the past two weeks.

"The arrest of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy within the vast [KOJC] compound in Davao City raises serious concerns about the integrity and accountability of those who have direct ties to this controversial preacher," Chua said on Monday, Sept. 9, a day after authorities took custody of Quiboloy.

"Former President Rodrigo Duterte, serving as the administrator of the KOJC compound where Quiboloy was apprehended, cannot simply distance himself from this troubling situation," he said.

"His role within the KOJC compound places him at the center of this unfolding scandal, and the public deserves clear answers about his involvement," noted the Manila congressman, also chairman of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability.

Bongalon, an assistant majority leader in the House of Representatives, agrees.

“Being the administrator of Pastor Quiboloy’s estate, specifically the [KOJC] in Davao City, where the evangelist was arrested, makes him liable under the law – at the very least for harboring a fugitive,” he said.

“The former president can – I think - fit in the definition of an accomplice,” pointed out the lawyer-solon.

Likewise, Duterte being a member of the Bar should know his law, according the administration legislator. “Being a lawyer also means being an officer of the court. Simply put, he should not be one who should be instrumental in the violation of the country’s laws.”

“It can even be a basis for a petition for disbarment, more so if it can be proven that he did this deliberately – it means not to serve the ends of justice, which is obviously an infraction of the law,” Bongalon explained further.

“Remember, he – for all intents and purposes – was a former president,” he added.

Quiboloy, founder and leader of the KOJC church, is facing charges of child abuse, sexual abuse, and qualified human trafficking.

Duterte considers Quiboloy his spiritual adviser.
