How Gerald Anderson sacrificed his motorcycles to rescue a family during typhoon
At a glance
Kapamilya actor Gerald Anderson is energized and looking forward to returning to work after a two-year hiatus from the spotlight.
For two years, Gerald rested, watched movies and focused on businesses. Now, he's eager to work again.
Pa-pogi lang sa harap ng camera," said Gerald during a media conference for his upcoming series "Nobody" held at ABS-CBN recently.
I watched a lot of movies.
I've been here for 18 or 19 years na. It's so nostalgic. I've been through a lot dito. Sa pinagdaraanan namin sa company, kasama ako sa fight to bring it back.
"Despite wala kaming franchise or channel, we still give the best content and story. Kami pa rin. Asahan ninyo, we will give 200 percent sa audience who never left us," the actor said.
Gerald’s last series “A Family Affair” aired on primetime TV in 2022.
To the rescue
An Army reservist who currently holds the rank of Auxiliary Commander at the Philippine Coast Guard, Gerald was awarded a “search and rescue medal” by PCG commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, in a ceremony held at the PCG headquarters in Port Area, Manila in August.
The 35-year-old actor was commended after he was caught on camera rescuing a family, including a child, who were stranded in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Quezon City, due to the floods brought by Typhoon Carina.
Gerald recalled the rescue operation, adding that it was an invaluable experience to assist those impacted by the weather disturbance.
At first, Gerald felt uneasy about sharing a heroic deed, claiming it should not be a big deal. However, the handsome actor narrated it anyway.
It's something you naturally do.
"So bumaha. And then pataas ng pataas (ang baha).
"After lunch, lampas tuhod na.
So that's how it started honestly.
"So kinuha na namin yung inflatable pool. Yung mga motor nabaha. Lumubog talaga.
Kasi sobrang bilis.
"That's the feeling na hindi mo mabibili.
'Nobody'
Gerald said the intriguing series will center around one’s loyalty, integrity, and morality based on the teaser that features a montage of Gerald’s real-life advocacy and good deeds but also leaves an intriguing statement that it “is not a story about a hero… Gerald Anderson is a nobody.”
“It’s the perfect comeback show kasi it’s very challenging. This is a journey ng isang tao na hindi mo alam kung ano ba talaga siya. Is he a hero? vigilante ba siya? does he have integrity?” he said during the project announcement held last Aug. 28.
The Kapamilya actor also revealed that he is set to undergo physical training for his character as a law enforcement officer.
“May martial arts at firing training dahil law enforcement ako rito so may mga special training. May konting knowledge ako from the coastguard and I’ll try to share it with the cast members,” he shared.
“Nobody” will be produced by ABS-CBN’s JRB Creative Production and will be led by Benedict Mique as the director together with the creative manager Dindo Perez and head writer Cenon Palomares.
Gerald believes many viewers can relate to the upcoming series.
"Hindi siya simpleng action series or hard drama. Tungkol ito sa journey ng mga tao na who go through that also.
Its very different because iba ang situation niya.
"I think of all us we feel na we're a nobody minsan sa buhay natin.
This is going to be a difficult show physically, mentally and emotionally. But when you love what you do and medyo malapit sa puso ko ito, I'm going to give 150 percent dito," Gerald also said.
