LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – House Committee on Ways and Means chairman Rep. Joey Salceda announced on Sunday, September 29, that he is running for governor in Albay in the 2025 mid-term elections.

Salceda, who is on his third and final term as congressman, announced his plan during a meeting with barangay captains here at Sitti's Restaurant.
During the meeting, Salceda revealed his running mate, Farida "Diday" Co, the youngest sister of House Committee on Appropriations chairman Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co.
Salceda was Albay governor from 2007 to 2016 and Albay second district representative from 2016 to 2025.
During his term as governor, Albay was disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) champion for its zero casualty goal during disasters and became No. 1 in tourism.
Among his landmark projects were the Bicol International Airport (BIA) here which was completed and operational during his second term as representative.
Salceda said that once elected, he will pursue international flights at BIA and several big infrastructure projects such as bridges that will connect islands of Albay to the mainland.
He also eyeing the old Legazpi City domestic airport as a new business hub of this province.
Salceda and Co will run under the Lakas-CMD party.
During the meeting, Salceda endorsed Hisham Ismail as mayor and Luis Gutierez as vice mayor of this city.
