One Cebu party reveals congressional bets


CEBU CITY – The powerhouse One Cebu party on Monday, September 30, revealed its congressional candidates in the 2025 elections.

The announcement was made during the party convention at SM Seaside City Cebu, attended by party standard-bearer Gov. Gwen Garcia, party secretary general Rep. Pablo John Garcia, and members composed of 52 of 53 Cebu mayors, 11 of 12 Cebu representatives in Congress, all 17 of the provincial board members, and a super majority of all members of the municipal and  city council members, including barangay officials. 

The party’s candidates for Congress are Rhea Mae Gullas (first district), Edsel Galeos (second district), Garcia (third district), Janice Salimbangon (fourth district), Duke Frasco (fifth district), Daphne Lagon (sixth district), Patricia Calderon (seventh district), Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon (lone district of Mandaue City), Rachel “Cutie” del Mar (Cebu City North), Maria Cynthia “Cindi” King Chan (lone district of Lapu-Lapu City), and Sonny Lagon (Ako Bisaya party-list).

Gov. Gwen  was chosen as the party’s candidate for governor for a record sixth time. “I accept your nomination with pride and humility,” Gov. Gwen said.

She is now serving her fifth term as governor.

Party members signed a cooperation agreement with three formidable political parties in Cebu’s first district as well as in the independent and highly urbanized cities of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu. 

Gov. Gwen signed the agreement with Kugi Uswag Sugbo party president, acting Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin N. Garcia, Alayon-Nacionalista (NP) party, represented by its president, Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, and KAABAG party-represented by its president, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan.

The agreement states that the parties express a desire to forge a cooperation to attain their mutual goals in the upcoming elections.

“The primary purpose of this cooperation is to promote and implement the common goals and objectives of both parties through a unified effort for the 2025 elections,” the agreement said.

Party members agreed “to commit to working together to ensure harmonious and efficient functioning; respect, understand, and value each other’s perspectives; maintain open communication on decisions, policy positions, and cooperation activities; commit full cooperation and support during and immediately prior to the campaign period of the 2025 election; and respect each other’s autonomy while committing to resolve differences through dialogue and mutual understanding.”
