DHSUD activates regional emergency shelter clusters amid 'Julian' onslaught

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has instructed all regional directors to prepare emergency shelters for residents that would be displaced by flooding and other adverse effects of typhoon “Julian.”

DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar said a memorandum was already issued for the activation of the regional shelter clusters in response to the effects of the weather disturbance.

“The swift response of the DHSUD must be ensured by our Regional Offices. We must always be prepared to assist fellow citizens affected during times of disaster and remain proactive in providing help whenever our kababayans need it,” Acuzar said.

The order was directed to the DHSUD Regional Offices 1, 2, 3, 4A, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

DHSUD Undersecretary for Disaster Response Randy Escolango said their regional offices were instructed to closely monitor their respective areas of jurisdiction and facilitate emergency response and humanitarian assistance as needed.

The regional directors, he added, are enjoined to coordinate with the respective shelter cluster members within their regions and convene using all available means.

To ensure real-time reporting and corresponding actions, Escolango said the regional directors are directed to submit daily situational report.

Meanwhile, the DHSUD has approved over P30 million in assistance for victims of Typhoon "Carina" and fire incidents in Bacoor City, Cavite, and other parts of the country. Some victims have already received cash assistance through the Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program (IDSAP).

Under this program, the DHSUD provides P30,000 for households with totally damaged homes due to calamities, whether natural or man-made, and P10,000 for those with partially damaged properties.
