Known as a regular health columnist for Manila Bulletin Lifestyle, Dr. Edsel Salvana is no stranger to sharing the latest information when it comes to news about Covid-19, mpox, and other infectious diseases. 

Recently, Dr. Salvana received the Innovation Excellence Award for Research from the Philippine S&T Development Foundation (PhilDev) during an awarding ceremony held at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel last Sept. 21. In his speech, he shares his hopes for the future.

“The work we’re doing at UP NIH and the contributions made during the Covid-19 pandemic somehow feel like a good return on investment. I look forward to making more research and inspiring more kids in science as time goes by,” said Dr. Salvana.

Other awardees from the night include former senate president Edgardo J. Angara (Science, Technology, and Education Leadership Award for Policy), Ramon B. Magsaysay Jr. (Technology Entrepreneurship Leadership Award for Policy), Nanette Medved-Po (Innovation Excellence Award for Sustainable Environment), Lilia B de Lima, LI.D. (h.c.) (S&T Innovation and Leadership Award for Governance), Reynaldo B Vea, PhD (Academic Leadership Award for S&T), and Tirso Ronquillo, PhD (Stratpoint Technopreneurship Education Leadership Award). Mobile app GCash also received the Dado Banatao Technopreneurship Excellence Award.
