Lightning strike kills fisherman

BACOLOD CITY – A 21-year-old fisherman was killed by  lightning during a thunderstorm in the sea of Purok Maguey, Barangay Tibsoc, San Enrique, Negros Occidental on Tuesday afternoon, September 24.

Police identified the victim as Mico Gemino of Barangay Tibsoc.

Police Major Leo Estopa, San Enrique police chief, said the victim and his father just had finished fishing when the thunderstorm occurred following heavy rain.

The lightning damaged their pump boat but the victim’s 48-year-old father was unharmed. 

Gemino was declared dead in a hospital and the incident was only reported to the police on Wednesday, September 25.
