“CLUP is very important. It shapes the direction of an LGU,” said DHSUD-6 Regional Director Eva Maria Marfil at this week’s Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Agency-6 here.

While a CLUP is only good for 10 years, Marfil noted that only two LGUs have updated versions – Iloilo City and Bacolod City.

To encourage LGUs, the DHSUD is implementing the Planado Program that offers capacity-building training for CLUP updating. Ninety LGUs have so far been trained.

One-hundred twenty-six LGUs have availed themselves of technical assistance from DHSUD to monitor the implementation of zoning ordinances and CLUP.

Marfil reiterated that even if the CLUP of an LGU has expired, its zoning ordinances can still be implemented.
