CEBU CITY – Illegal drugs amounting to more than P1 billion were seized in Central Visayas in the past eight months.

During the same period, a total of 206 barangays in the region were declared by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) as drug-cleared, the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) reported.

The PRO-7 reported that from January 1 to August 31 this year, a total of 4,818 police operations were conducted that led to the confiscation of 144,149.89 grams of shabu with a standard drug price of P980,219,252.

The eight-month operation also led to the confiscation of 1,630.02 grams of dried marijuana leaves, 28,061 fully grown marijuana plants, and 2,000 marijuana stalks amounting to P6,057,802.40.

Also seized were 1,055 ampules of Nubain worth P121,325.

The relentless anti-illegal drug campaign was part of the community-based and human rights-adherent campaign against criminality, said Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, chief of PRO-7.

Behind the relentless anti-illegal drug drive, 71 percent of the 3,003 barangays in Central Visayas have been declared by the ROCBDC as drug-cleared.

Apart from the 206 drug-cleared barangays, there are 30 other barangays that are subject to ROCBDC deliberation.

Aberin assured the public that, with the help of the community, the campaign against illegal drugs will continue to be unrelenting.

The anti-criminality campaign will be intensified to keep Central Visayas safe from criminalities, said Aberin.

“Our efforts in ending the menace of illegal drugs are gaining significant grounds with the arrest of illegal drug suspects and the massive confiscation of illegal drugs.  More importantly, these operational accomplishments resulted in the clearing of 71 percent of the barangays in Central Visayas, and this will continue to rise as we strengthen our partnership in ending illegal drugs, once and for all,” Aberin said.

Aberin instructed all police units in the regions to solve all the reported crimes in their jurisdictions.
