BJMP holds mass scabies treatment at Quezon City Jail

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has teamed up with the Quezon City government in the mass treatment’ of the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) for skin infections, and the disinfection of the tools and facilities in the detention facility.

In a statement, the BJMP underscored the importance of the  activity to protect the PDLs.  

During the recent medical treatment activity, the QC Jail Male Dormitory noted that appropriate measures like cleaning and disinfecting all cells and tools, applying benzyl benzoate lotion all over the body of PDLs. 

“There were also info sessions for PDLs to better understand scabies: its symptoms, and how to treat and prevent it,’’ the QCJMD disclosed.

Currently, the QCJMD pointed out that “it is the largest prison scabies mass treatment’’ administered nationwide, adding that “this is also the first of several jails that the survey has serious cases of scabies to be addressed by the BJMP.’’

“By making the right policies and response, we can prevent and contain scabies in jails. So, we can preserve the dignity and humane treatment of PDLs,’’ the QCJMD continued.
