DBM creates 175 teaching positions for MSU system

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman has approved the creation of a total of 175 faculty plantilla positions for the Mindanao State University (MSU) System.

“Of the 175 new faculty positions, 75 are for Instructor I positions which will augment the need for teachers in the 12 secondary schools within the MSU System,” the DBM said in a statement on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The DBM has issued Notice of Organization, Staffing, and Compensation Action (NOSCA) to approve these positions, with an estimated Personnel Services (PS) requirement of approximately P39.217 million.

Pangandaman emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening the MSU System and education in Mindanao, in line with Republic Act No. 11504.

“Nakasaad po sa batas natin, ‘The National Government shall continue to support, enhance, and strengthen the Mindanao State University System.’ Gusto po nating patatagin at lalo pang paigtingin ang edukasyon at human capital development, lalung-lalo na sa Mindanao. We are not only simply filling the staffing gaps in MSU, but elevating the quality of education across the region so that our students have access to top-tier learning opportunities,” Pangandaman said.

The newly established Instructor I positions will offer opportunities for aspiring educators at MSU campuses, addressing the increasing need for qualified faculty in the region.

100 new faculty positions for MSU-IIT

In addition, the budget secretary approved the creation of 100 faculty plantilla positions, specifically for Assistant Professor IV roles at MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology (IIT), with an estimated Personnel Services allocation of P81.110 million.

According to the DBM, the new positions will meet the urgent need for qualified faculty due to the university’s rising enrollment and expanding academic programs.

Signed last week, Sept. 17, the department said that both NOSCA reaffirm the government’s commitment to providing quality education nationwide, especially underserved areas.

“These initiatives are expected to enhance faculty development and capacity-building efforts within the MSU System, ensuring that it remains a premier institution for education in Mindanao,” the DBM added. (Derco Rosal)
