Female cashier dies in Sampaloc fire

A female cashier died in a fire that hit a commercial building in Sampaloc, Manila on Tuesday morning, September 24.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the 50-year-old woman was a stay-in employee at the eatery located at the ground floor of JMT Building, a five-storey building on G. Tuazon Street in Sampaloc.

They said the victim was not able to get out of the building and suffered from suffocation.

The BFP said the fire started at 3:40 a.m. and was extinguished at 4:12 a.m.

According to authorities, the fire slightly damaged the second floor of the building and did not spread to the upper floors.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, they added.
