The National Unity Party (NUP) will hold its national convention on Monday night, Sept. 23 ahead of the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the May 2025 elections.

Thus said party president, Camarines Sur 2nd district Rep. LRay Villafuerte a staunch Marcos administration backer.

The annual convention of the NUP--the biggest politics bloc in the House of Representatives next only to the Speaker Martin Romualdez-led Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD)--will be held at the Solaire Resort North in Quezon City.

The joint meeting of the party’s National Congress and Central Committee will also be held Solaire Resort North just before the national convention.

Villafuerte said the twin events will allow the NUP leadership to "tackle our party’s vision, initiatives and achievements, and its directions moving forward ahead of next year’s midterm elections".

“Our party is taking bold and decisive steps onward to better align itself with the President’s quest for a prosperous and peaceful Bagong Pilipinas—where no Filipino will be left behind—as an upshot of the NUP’s formal alliance not only with the (PFP) Partido Federal ng Pilipinas chaired by Mr. Marcos, but also with like-minded parties such as Lakas-CMD, NP (Nacionalista Party) and NPC (Nationalist People's Coalition) that share our Chief Executive's vision for rapid and inclusive growth,” he said.

At the joint meeting of its national congress and central committee, the NUP will elect its national officials, and then pass a resolution confirming the election of these party officers, and another resolution adopting an effective mechanism to strengthen the party in preparation for the May 12, 2025 elections.

In the national convention, the NUP will, among others, adopt the resolutions approved in the earlier joint meeting of its national congress and central committee.

Villafuerte, as party president; and former Department of and Local Government (DILG) Secretary and ex-Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Ronaldo Puno, as party chairman, will speak during the national convention.

“The NUP has played a significant role in helping our President and his administration pursue and attain deep and fundamental transformations over the past two years, leading to post-pandemic recovery, by backing the President’s legislative agenda,” said Villafuerte, a former three-term Camarines Sur governor.

"We, therefore, express our solidarity with the other political parties that support the Bagong Pilipinas vision of the President that puts a premium on unity with the goal of genuinely improving the lives of all our people," he said.
