According to the city’s public information office, the boardwalk features a 1,300-meter-long and 4-meter-wide linear park and bike trail that spans across Barangays Coloong, Tagalog, and Wawang Pulo. It is designed for long runs, health walks, and cycling activities.

The linear park also serves as a flood control dike, managing water flow between the three barangays and Meycauayan, while developing into a secured recreational area for pedestrian activities.

During the ceremony, the city government launched the “First Valenzuela Walkathon,” which saw 200 members of the Office of the Senior Citizen Association (OSCA) participate.

Senior citizens walked 600 meters to advocate for a healthy lifestyle and physical activity among the elderly.

Participants in the walkathon were screened to ensure they were fit for the activity and had no serious health conditions.

The local government provided water stations, medical personnel, and rescue teams on standby.

The walkathon wrapped up by awarding a champion, first to third runners-up, and special honors for the oldest participants in the marathon.

A free go-karting activity for children ages four to seven was organized on the other half of the boardwalk, scheduled to take place for two days, from September 21 to 22, with 10 go-karts provided by Pedway Go Kart Rental.

Gatchalian said the boardwalk serves not only as a recreational space but also one of the city’s flood control systems.

“Ito pong boardwalk natin ay hindi lamang pasyalan, kung hindi ho ay proteksyon para sa ating mga barangay (This boardwalk is not just a recreational area, it also serves as protection for our barangays),” he said..

The Valenzuela Boardwalk is open daily from 5 a.m to 10 p.m.
