More than 500 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) showed up at the pilot implementation sites of the online driver’s license renewal processing in Taiwan on its first day on Saturday, Sept, 21, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said.

And based on the initial assessment, LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the online platform has been working well after it was able to cater to the 200 OFWs who availed of the driver’s renewal processing in Taichung and Kaohsuing.

“The goal here is to provide fast and comfortable services to our OFWs using the digital platform the way President Marcos wants it to be,” said Mendoza.

“The pilot implementation comes with the test of the system and gathering of feedback from OFWs in order to identify any possible glitches before it is expanded to the United States and other countries in Europe and the Middle East,” he added.

One of the OFWs served was Angelito Maderia, a Taiwan-based worker who was the first to successfully complete the online OFW driver’s license renewal in Taichung District.

Maderia, who came all the way from his workplace, narrated that he started complying with the requirements upon hearing the news of the online driver’s license renewal that will be made available in Taiwan.

He said he gradually complied with the requirements during his break time using only his cellular phone.

The requirements he complied and attached during his break time were:

 •           A driver’s license expiring within sixty (60) days, or expired within two (2) years, from the date of expiration, and no revision of records to be made prior to renewal

•           Active LTMS (referred thereafter as “LTO Portal”) account with OFW’s biometric profile captured1

•           Online CDE certification taken from the LTO Portal

•           Medical certificate provided by an LTO-accredited telemedical facility

And when he arrived at the online LTO driver’s renewal site, Maderia said the entire transaction was very smooth.
