Baguio logs 78 fire incidents in 9 months


BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Fire Department recorded 78 fire incidents with three fatalities here from January 1 to September 19, 11 more compared to the 67 in the same period last year.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong expressed alarm over the increase in fire incidents and ordered the BCFD to step up fire prevention awareness among residents.

"We have to ramp up our information-education-communication (IEC) campaign to prevent further incidents," Magalong said.

Five fires occurred in January, 16 in February, 14 in March, 10 in April, 11 in May, three in June, eight in July and August, and three so far this month.

Forty-one were structural, 17 grass fires, 12 forest fires, six vehicles, one garbage fire, and one electrical/post fire.

No fire fatalities were recorded in the same period  last year.

Magalong reminded the people here to be alert  when fire strikes.
