QC LGU to accept Green Awards 2024 entries until Sept. 30

The Quezon City local government announced that it extended the deadline for submission of entries to the Green Awards 2024 until September 30.

According to the city's public information office, outstanding barangays, Sangguniang Kabataan, youth-based organizations, and businesses that have implemented exceptional programs and initiatives in Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Action will be recognized in the event.

It will also include hospitals, as well as public and private schools.

“The climate crisis has given rise to many outstanding initiatives in the areas of adaptation and mitigation, showcasing the amazing resiliency of QCitizens representing various sectors of the community,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

“The QC Green Awards aims to recognize these efforts and to share them with others so they may inspire similar endeavors and unite us towards responsible environmental action and disaster preparedness and response," she added.

The awarding ceremony is divided into two main categories: the Green and Resilient sections.

The Green category recognizes institutions that have addressed the climate crisis and advanced sustainable practices.

Meanwhile, the Resilient category honors projects that demonstrate preparedness, resilience, and effective response to natural disasters and human-made crises.

The city government said that barangays, businesses, hospitals, and schools can win cash prizes of up to P300,000, while Sangguniang Kabataan and youth-based organizations can receive P100,000.

Cash prizes were intended to support and enhance ongoing and future climate action and disaster risk reduction projects.

The city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO) along with the Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department (CCESD) will evaluate each entry.

It added that other city government offices and agencies involved in the award’s technical group will also assist during the evaluation.

The city government said that winners will be recognized at a ceremony in November.

Participants can register and submit all required documents through the QC Green Awards microsite (greenawards.quezoncity.gov.ph).
