Danish firm to help decarbonize New Clark City

State-run Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has partnered with Danfoss Philippines Inc., a Danish global engineering company, to formulate a framework for decarbonizing New Clark City through green and sustainable developments.

In a statement, the BCDA said the partnership would allow the city to get solutions that would “boost urban development and improve quality of life while preserving the natural ecosystem”. This would be done by adopting energy-efficient and carbon-neutral solutions for the rising metropolis.

This program stemmed from a signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two companies to conduct a study on implementing a decarbonization program.

According to the MOU, Danfoss will share its technical expertise and knowledge to develop cost-effective decarbonization initiatives and carbon-neutral technologies.

The firm would also lead technical assessments, business case preparations, and studies, which focus on potentially adopting smart store systems, district cooling systems, and establishing a Sustainability Technology Center.

BCDA president and chief executive officer Joshua Bingcang believed that the MOU is a significant milestone to transform New Clark City and stated that “we aim to position New Clark City as a model and benchmark for other cities in the Philippines—and even around the globe—that are striving to achieve a net-zero transition.”

Allan Almendrala, Danfoss Philippines' general manager, is delighted about the partnership, which would allow them to share new energy-efficient technologies.

“By offering a roadmap for green urban transition, it shows how cities can act as ambitious, inspirational front-runners that showcase green technology and create attractive places to live and work,” Almendrala said.

Danish Ambassador Franz-Michael Mellbin shared that the partnership would accelerate sustainability in New Clark City.

“The decarbonization efforts in New Clark City will not only usher sustainable development in the city but also improve the quality of life of its residents and locators,” he elaborated.

Danfoss offers best-in-class technology and solutions to boost green transition through energy efficiency, machine productivity, lower emissions, and electrification.

Moreover, the ambassador added that the Danish government would help the state-run enterprise by sharing their expertise in green solutions and innovations.
