“The faithful are encouraged to visit and offer prayers in the designated Jubilee Churches to mark the Jubilee Year declared by Pope Francis,” said Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula, Monday, Sept. 2.

Pope Francis declared 2025 a Year of Jubilee with a Papal Bull titled “Spes Non Confudit,”which means “Hope Does Not Disappoint.” The Jubilee Year begins with the opening of the Holy Door at the Basilica of St. Peter at the Vatican on Christmas Eve this year.

As part of the Church’s mission to be a channel of the Lord’s mercy, compassion and love, the archdiocese encourages the different sectors of society to visit the designated churches to mark the Jubilee Year and particularly to avail of the sacrament of confession.

Sectors identified by the archdiocese include government officials, the sick, persons with disabilities, health care workers, the youth, students, catechists and other church volunteers, the poor, orphans, persons deprived of liberty and their families, migrants and refugees, digital communicators, environmental advocates, the elderly, business groups, young professionals, teachers and workers among others.

Some of the designated Jubilee Churches that the faithful may visit  in the Archdiocese of Manila include the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (Manila Cathedral), the National Shrine of Saint Jude Thaddeus, the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of the Black Nazarene (Quiapo Church), the National Shrine of Saint Michael & The Archangels and the Minor Basilica of San Sebastian (Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish).

The Archdiocese of Manila has released a circular declaring the designation of the Jubilee Churches “as sacred places of welcome and privileged spaces for the rebirth of hope “ in preparation for the Ordinary Jubilee of the Year taking into account the needs of the faithful as well as the opportunity to nourish the pious desire to obtain the Indulgence.”
