House quad-committee co-chairma, Santa Rosa City lone district Rep. Dan Fernandez revealed on late Thursday night, Sept. 18 that the brother of controversial Chinese national Michael Yang has been arrested by local authorities.

Fernandez announced this just minutes before the 13-hour quad-comm hearing was concluded.

According to Fernandez, Yang Jian Xin, alias "Tony Yang" and "Antonio Lim" is now in the custody of the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

Yang Jian Xin, who owns the Philippine Sanjia Steel Corp. in Cagayan de Oro City, was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

"His violation of this laws in accordance with our Immigration policies," said Fernandez told the special four-way panel.

“Antonio Lim, where his residence that was submitted to the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission)—Yakal Street Cagayan de Oro City is the same person of the brother of Michael Yang in the name of Jian Xin Yang,” he explained.

Yang Jian Xin had earlier been cited for contempt by the joint panel for non-appearance despite its summons.

"If you remember, Alice Guo, ‘yan si Yang Jian Xin na eldest brother ni Michael Yang (that is Yang Jian Xin, the eldest brother ni Michael Yang)," the Laguna solon told the dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor, who attended the grueling hearing Thursday.

“This is a major breakthrough in our fight against illegal drugs and organized crime. Tony Yang’s arrest exposes illicit activities disguised as legitimate businesses," said Surigao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, overall chairman of quad-committee.

“For too long, these individuals have operated with impunity, using corporate fronts to conceal their illegal operations. This arrest strengthens our commitment to pursuing justice and holding everyone involved in these syndicates accountable, no matter how well-connected they may be,” Barbers added.

“The capture of Tony Yang strengthens the case against his brother, Michael Yang, who has continuously evaded our summons. We will not stop until we uncover the full scope of their involvement in illegal activities that endanger our people and threaten national security,” Barbers further said.

Michael Yang is a former economic adviser of ex-president Rodrigo Duterte.

In a quad-comm hearing last Aug. 16, Jailed former Bureau of Customs (BOC) intelligence officer Jimmy Guban branded Michael Yang as the "distribut[or of] drugs in the local market".
