BARMM inundated by massive flooding anew

DAVAO CITY – Another wave of flooding has inundated the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao as residents are still reeling from the impact of a similar flooding last July.

A report from the BARMM-Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (Bangsamoro READi) said  the region experienced heavy rainfall due to the southwest monsoon intensified by tropical cyclone "Ferdie" over the weekend.

Heavy rains spawned flooding in several low-lying towns and forced thousands of residents to seek refuge in safer grounds.

A report from National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the flooding has affected at least 150,000 persons in  Basilan, Magundanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur.

Like the flooding in July, Maguindanao del Sur  recorded the highest number of affected persons with 120,350 from 11 towns.

Most of these towns are located in the periphery of the Ligawasan Marsh, the catch basin of the river systems within the Mindanao River Basin.

Bangsamoro READi reported that 47 houses were totally destroyed and 210 were partially damaged.

Over 5,000 persons are temporarily living in 11 evacuation centers.
