Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan is appealing for donations, either in kind or in cash, to help the nearly 2,000 families who have been displaced by two massive fire incidents in Tondo.

Lacuna-Pangan gave assurance that the Manila City Council, under Vice Mayor and Presiding Officer John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto, is passing the needed measures to provide the fire victims with substantial assistance.

Considering the large amount needed due to the number of affected families, she stressed that the provision of monetary assistance must undergo the proper process as this will come from local government funds.

The local chief executive said that she and Nieto are very careful when it comes to handling the public funds, making sure that they are spent properly and in accordance with the dictates of the law.

She said all contributions to support the families are welcome.

Such donations, she added, may be coursed through the office of the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) headed by Chief Re Fugoso and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) headed by Arnel Angeles.

Donors may also drop off their donations at the Kartilya ng Katipunan beside the Manila City Hall where MDRRMO and MDSW staff will be assigned to receive the donations, she said.
