ILOILO CITY – Almost 3,000 public schools in Western Visayas region shifted to remote classes due to the “habagat” (southwest monsoon) and tropical depression “Gener.”
The Department of Education-6 said that physical classes were suspended in 2,957 public schools as of Tuesday, September 17.
“This is mostly because of flooding or that there are class suspensions declared by the local government units or the school head,” said Hernani Escullar Jr., DepEd-6 information officer.
These schools shifted to Alternative Delivery Mode or ADM which was first implemented during the pandemic.
Negros Occidental, including the capital Bacolod, had 1,132 public schools. The province of Antique had 537 schools, 471 in Aklan province, 425 in Iloilo province, 211 in Capiz province, including capital Roxas City; 115 in Guimaras province, and 66 in Iloilo City.
Escullar said that schools may continue ADM for the rest of the week due to the weather forecast.
He noted some schools implemented ADM since late last week due to the impact of tropical storm “Ferdie.”
DepEd-6 continues to monitor the situation across the region, including damages to school infrastructure.
