Mayor Honey lauds emergency units' assistance in recent Tondo fires

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan lauded all the units that extended help during and after the two fire incidents that separately transpired in Tondo, Manila over the weekend, which rendered nearly 2,000 families homeless.

In her message at the Manila City Hall's flag raising ceremony, Lacuna-Pangan particularly acknowledged the help and support given by the officers and employees of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) -Manila, the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), Manila Health Department (MHD), and the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW).

The mayor also lauded the efforts of the Manila Department of Public Services (DPS) in clearing up the areas affected by the said massive fire incidents.

The city government also recognized the barangay chairmen who immediately agreed to lend the covered courts under their jurisdiction so they could be used as evacuation centers for the fire victims, along with the officials of Division of City Schools (DCS) who permitted the nearby schools to be evacuation sites.

Last Saturday, September 14, the mayor with Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto rushed to the fire scene to mobilize all concerned units of the city government. She also ordered the barangay chairmen in the area to prepare the covered courts as temporary shelters for the affected families.

She said is very thankful that no lives were lost and no one was seriously harmed in the said fire.

The local chief executive appealed to the residents to be cautious on the causes of fire.
