Lightning strike disrupts LRT-2 operations

Operations of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) were disrupted on Monday morning, Sept. 16, due to a lightning strike that caused extensive delays and service interruptions.

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said the incident occurred around 9:44 p.m. on Sunday at Gilmore Station.

The lightning strike damaged approximately 70 meters of catenary wire, which is critical for train operations.

Repair efforts were further delayed by additional lightning strikes impacting the restoration process.

Despite these setbacks, the LRTA maintenance team worked through the night and completed repairs and testing by 3:30 a.m. on Monday.

Service resumed on schedule at 5 a.m., with stations opening slightly later than usual. Passengers experienced minimal delays in boarding.

The LRTA advises passengers to stay informed through their social media channels for any additional announcements.
