A migraine can often come at the most inconvenient of times. Maybe you were just about to get ready for a big presentation or head out with friends when a nasty headache just decides to strike out of nowhere. No worries, as here are some solutions to do away with the pain.

Taking pain relievers

Taking something as simple as ibuprofen is enough to knock that headache away. To get the job done, ibuprofen blocks the production of key chemicals inside your body that are causing the pain. Paracetamol is also a popular choice for many in treating headaches, though some argue that ibuprofen works more effectively. While both are equally effective in treating migraines, ibuprofen has been said to help with inflammation as well.

Rest for a bit

Headaches often mean that we’re working ourselves too hard. It’s our body’s way of demanding us to take a breather. A short five minute nap or generally taking it easy for the rest of the day might help alleviate any pain you’re feeling. Remember, your body can only take so much. Treat yourself and take some time off, your body will thank you for it.

Try aromatherapy

Aromatherapy has become a popular way to de-stress and put one’s mind at ease. It can also put you in a meditative state, as shown by Eastern religions that make use of incense sticks. You can use scents like various essential oils, home fragrances, or candles. Breathe in the air slowly and let the new aromas take you to a peaceful state of mind.

Hydrate yourself

As always, drinking plenty of water is important for your body to remain strong. Water helps power the body by replenishing lost nutrients from our daily activities. Always ensure you have a reliable source of water nearby or bring a sufficient amount wherever you go by using a water bottle or tumbler and take a sip every now and then. There are also apps that help remind you when it’s time to drink water.

Serenity through meditation or prayer

Similar to aromatherapy, finding a peaceful state of mind can be tantamount to providing relief for your head. Simple meditation routines like slow breathing and emptying one’s mind can help bring you back to speed. For religious folks, the calm brought through meditation can also be felt through prayer. Take a moment to pause, reflect, and sing your praises to put your thoughts in a serene state.
