Manila suspends classes at Vicente Lim Elementary School where Tondo fire victims stay

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan ordered the suspension of face-to-face and online classes at General Vicente Lim Elementary School on Monday, September 16, due to the massive fire that transpired in Vitas, Tondo on September 14.

The school is also currently being used as one of the evacuation sites by families affected by the incident.

The city government said 3,900 elementary students of the affected school would have extra classes to make up for the day when classes were suspended.

Based on the latest bulletin submitted by the Department of Social Welfare Department -National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR), the number of affected families has reached 1,950.

The validation process of the local government and DSWD Field Office NCR is still ongoing.

Other fire victims temporarily took shelter at the two other evacuation sites in Barangay 105 and 106.

Meanwhile, some fire victims spent the night at the two gasoline stations in the area.

There were also affected families who chose to stay and install their modular tents along the center island of Mel Lopez Boulevard and Maginoo Street.

Authorities continue to encourage evacuees to leave the road and choose to stay at the three evacuation sites where LGU personnel and volunteers can assist them.
