DepEd engages education partners to discuss PISA preparation, other key initiatives

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Saturday, Sept. 14, that it had gathered its private sector partners to encourage their support for priority initiatives, including the agency's ongoing preparations for the upcoming Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) next year.

“We appreciate your presence and your support for the Department,” DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara said during the program. “We look forward to further collaboration,” he added.

At the 2024 Stakeholders’ Forum held on Sept. 12 at the DepEd Central Office, Assistant Secretary for Curriculum and Teaching Janir T. Datukan provided an overview of the PISA, which is administered by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Datukan also presented the general plans and activities in preparation for the PISA.

During the Senate Committee on Finance Deliberations on DepEd's FY 2025 budget proposal earlier this week, Angara shared that the agency intends to provide teachers and learners with the resources needed for PISA preparation. “So it’s going to be like a bar exam,” he added.

Collaboration

In addition to PISA, the forum also served as a platform for DepEd and its partners to explore potential improvements to the Senior High School Work Immersion program, aimed at enhancing the employability of Senior High School learners.

DepEd also highlighted the potential support for teachers' professional development and career advancement to ensure compliance with quality standards.

During the open forum, most of the 65 stakeholder attendees expressed their support and sought clarifications regarding DepEd's initiatives.
