The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) promised to assist its regular employees who decided not to join the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) which is responsible for the rehabilitation of the airport starting Sept. 14.
This, as MIAA General Manager Eric Ines bared that some organic employees of MIAA wanted to stay with their current employer.
“As of last night, I learned [that] some employees withdrew their intention to join [the] NNIC,” he said.
Meanwhile, other employees who applied to the San Miguel Corporation (SMC)-led NNIC were already absorbed and they will receive a separation incentive pay (SIP) from the MIAA as required by the law.
Ines said the management is bound to help the workers who will be affected by the dissolution or abolition of department and offices for the rehabilitation of NAIA.
“We are bound to help them by relocating them to other offices or we will endorse them to other government offices because they are all Civil Service eligible,” he stated.
The fire and rescue as well as the medical departments of NAIA were also turned over to NNIC while the administration and finance department, airport police, engineering and the operation department will stay with MIAA, he added.
All contractual employees with contract with MIAA will be taken by NNIC for negotiation such as security guards, building attendants and among others.
It was agreed that the ongoing projects like the improvement of taxiway, runway lights, additional immigration counters at NAIA Terminal 3 and waterproofing at NAIA Terminal 2 will be completed by MIAA even if it takes until next year, Ines said.
He also said that last May this year, MIAA turned-over to the National Treasury 75 percent of MIAA’s earnings collected from operations and leased lots.
After the turn-over, Ines said that the MIAA will become a “regulator” that will monitor NNIC if they are complying to the terms and conditions set in the contract.
