Antique governor pushes creation of 2 congressional districts anew

ILOILO CITY – Outgoing Gov. Rhodora “Dodod” Cadiao is pushing the proposal for two congressional districts in Antique province anew.

“This has been proposed for a very long time and it’s about time there will be two districts,” Cadiao told Manila Bulletin in a phone interview on Tuesday, September 10.

Without a proper bill either in the Senate or House, the lady governor is considering this as one of her top priorities for next year’s elections.

She is poised to run for congresswoman as she is on her third and final term as governor and her alliance with former Antique Rep. and incumbent Sen. Loren Legarda has come to an end.

Cadiao said there’s a need to create another district to hasten the development of Antique, which was once considered as one of the country’s poorest provinces.

With a population of over 600,000, Cadiao said that a second congressional district means more allocation for residents to be able to secure socio-economic services from the government.

“It’s ideal to have another district so our constituents could be served better,” Cadiao reiterated.

The proposal has been on the level of the Antique Provincial Board for almost 10 years with the latest resolutions coming from Vice Gov. Edgar Denosta.

Cadiao might run against incumbent Rep. AA Legarda, the senator’s brother.
